Ed Buckley This is (mostly) an inventive Afro-Pop that was done before there was such a genre. Culled from 5 or 6 releases(mainly between '75 and '79), this is a well thought out collection that fits together quite nicely. Bebey successfully fuses Western pop with west African musical styles, and often west African musical instruments. Highly recommended.

Tim Kling I love finding new music and fascinating artists. This is a superb collection of early home recorded songs by Francis Bebey... a rare treat! Favorite track: Super Jungle.

Ethan Diamond Mom used to play this record for us every night before bed. She’d sing along and play the pop bottle while my brother manned the Casiotone. My job was to chant “ashamed, ashamed” when it got to that part. Favorite track: The coffee cola song.
Gilles Peterson

Gilles Peterson I can't believe I didn't know about this guy until now. Hailing from Camaroon, his style was really groundbreaking… like an African Arthur Russell… Amazing stuff!! I picked up a record a couple of weeks ago in Paris and subsequently discovered this compilation on Born Bad Records. Essential. Favorite track: New track.
